The BBA Work Experience requirement can be met in one of three ways: And must be completed before enrolling in BUSM 4200.

  1. 1. Co-op Work Term (COOP 2301 or COOP 2302/2303)

Typically students complete a COOP Work Term to satisfy the Work Experience requirement. A minimum one work term is required but students have the option to complete up to four. Co-op is recommended as it allows you to try different career paths, gain valuable work experience, have the support of a Co-op Instructor, and earn money while still in school. Note: EXPE 2300 is the prerequisite course for COOP. EXPE 2300 is not applicable as an elective for any Langara program.

  1. Flexible Assessment (BUSM 3000)

If you have past work experience in your field of study, you can request a Flexible Assessment, an evaluation of past work experience with one employer that a student has completed that is relevant to the student’s BBA program area and the work completed is a minimum of 420 hours.

  1. Practicum (BUSM 3000)

If you are currently working in a job in your field of study or you have a job lined up for the upcoming semester in your field of study, you can consider doing a Practicum. The role would also need to be approved by an instructor.

Students cannot enroll into BUSM 3000 on their own and must submit a request to the Co-op and Career Development Centre

IMPORTANT: Students cannot enroll into BUSM 3000 on their own and must submit a request to the Co-op and Career Development Centre

Both Flexible Assessment and Practicum requests are only accepted during the first six weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters and the first three weeks of the Summer semester.

We encourage all BBA students to attend an info session early on in their program for further information about the BBA Work Experience requirement and/or contact the Co-op department at coop@langara.ca

Course Planning Tool: Student Graduation Evaluation Tool in myLangara

BBA and Diploma students should review their program requirements and progress at least once per term.

Students are advised to refer to the unofficial Student Graduation Evaluation tool in myLangara to see how their previously completed and registered courses slot in to meet their program's requirements. It is important to note that the Student Graduation Evaluation tool allows you to view your program's requirements as of your program start date (also known as "catalogue term"). The program requirements publicly posted on the Langara website, by contrast, only reflect the most recent version of the program's curriculum.

Not sure what your program start date (or "catalogue term") is? Have a question about how a course is slotting in the Student Graduation Evaluation tool? Contact a Graduation Advisor to confirm at gradeval@langara.ca.

Course Planning Tip: Know When Your Courses are Offered

Do you know when your program's courses are offered? Not every course is available every term.

All LSM students are encouraged to check past course schedules to see when their courses have been offered in past terms. Some courses (FMGT 4225, for example) are only offered once a year. There are several courses that are not offered in Summer terms (like MATH 1119). Have a question about when courses you need will be offered? Contact program advising at business@langara.ca

Important note:

Students who are enrolled in an LSM program but following the requirements of a different program are advised to formally change their program as soon as possible. Students who stray from the LSM program curriculum can be removed from the program.

Diploma course planning guides can be found on the BBA and Diploma Student Important Information page. Please email business@langara.ca if you have questions.
